Where Expression Becomes Transformation
The Novillero Initiative creates space for adults impacted by incarceration to reconnect with creativity, confidence, identity, and self-expression through the arts. Through workshops, performances, mentorship, classes, and guided experiences, participants are encouraged to explore passions that may have been buried beneath survival mode, hardship, or life transitions. Because sometimes healing begins the moment someone feels safe enough to be seen, heard, and fully expressed.

The Journey of Transformation
Historically, a Novillero was a developing bullfighter—someone learning discipline, courage, composure, and identity before fully stepping into their role. Over time, the novillero became symbolic of transformation: a person facing fear, learning through challenge, and growing stronger through the process.
At The Cicada Project, Novillero represents the journey of rediscovering yourself beneath survival mode, reconnecting with your voice, and creating space for purpose, creativity, and growth to emerge.

Creative Expression That Builds Confidence, Connection & Purpose
Through workshops, performances, mentorship, storytelling, music, speaking opportunities, and guided experiences, the Novillero Initiative creates spaces where individuals can reconnect with creativity, confidence, identity, and self-expression. We believe creativity is more than talent—it is often a pathway back to self-worth, purpose, healing, and human connection.
Storytelling & Speaking
Opportunities to share personal stories, build confidence, and rediscover the power of your voice through guided speaking experiences.
Music & Creative Expression
Creative spaces where participants can explore music, rhythm, writing, movement, and artistic expression as tools for healing and connection.
Workshops & Reflection Experiences
Guided experiences designed to encourage self-awareness, emotional growth, reflection, and intentional next steps forward.
Mentorship & Community Connection
Supportive relationships and community experiences that encourage growth, imagination, accountability, and belonging.

Rebuilding From The Root
Many of the beliefs, survival patterns, fears, and emotional responses we carry as adults were formed long before adulthood. For individuals impacted by incarceration, life transitions, trauma, hardship, or survival mode, those foundations often need space to be revisited, questioned, healed, and rebuilt.
Through workshops, Open Skies experiences, creative expression, reflection, and intentional community, The Cicada Project creates opportunities for individuals to reconnect with who they are beneath survival mode—and make space for new dreams, purpose, and possibilities to emerge.
Reconnect With What's Been Waiting Beneath Survival Mode
The Novillero Initiative creates opportunities for individuals impacted by incarceration to reconnect with creativity, confidence, community, and self-expression through workshops, mentorship, storytelling, music, and intentional experiences. Whether you are looking to grow, express yourself, share your story, or simply reconnect with who you are beneath survival mode, you belong here.
A Space to Reconnect & Rebuild
You do not have to navigate difficult seasons alone. The Cicada Project creates intentional spaces for connection, healing, reflection, and personal growth for individuals impacted by incarceration—whether personally or through someone they love. Because support has the power to change what comes next.
